An English 1786 Pattern Officer's Spadroon
Circa 1786-96
With single-edged blade double-edged at the point and with wide central fuller on each face, the forte etched and gilt against a blued background (some pitting) with scrolls of foliage, trophies, the crowned 'GR' monogram and the signature 'J.J. Runkel Solingen', gilt-bronze 5-ball hilt (gilding rubbed) with cushion-shaped pommel and sword-knot ring, and reeded ivory grip inset with pointed oval brass cartouche, in original scabbard with gilt-bronze chape and two lockets carrying suspension rings, the mouth locket also with a frog-stud
