The lock signed Antoine Jamain, mid-18th Century
With reblued rifled two-stage barrel with turned muzzle and octagonal breech, silver fore-sight, engraved tang, signed lightly engraved rounded lock, moulded figured walnut full stock carved with foliage in relief behind the barrel tang and rear ramrod-pipe, and inlaid with silver wire scrollwork on the butt, cast and chased trigger-guard and pierced side-plate each in the rococo taste, the latter with vacant escutcheon, engraved spurred pommel, the cap with a bust of a Classical warrior, faceted ramrod-pipes, and later ramrod
