signed on the alidade Chapotot A Paris, with cross-bar located on the axis by sliding hook, the cross-piece with compass with finely engraved star to the cardinal points and blued-iron needle with brass cap, the alidade with two sights, the horizontal circle divided 0°-180° (x2), fitted with an ivory drawing tablet, with two fixed sights and ball-and-socket joint for the staff mounting with butterfly-wing tightening nut -- 6¼in. (15.8cm.) dia.
