Maker's mark of F. Elkington & Co., London, 1888, the base also incised AJA
Formed as a racehorse with a jockey up, on rectangular, naturalistic ground, the stone stand applied with gilt-metal berried laurel bordered engraved medallions, with larger central medallion front and back engraved with monogram, one also with CHALLENGE CUP; flanked by two further, and one at each end, one with monogram, the other with the Sassoon armorials, the remainder engraved: 1889 Won by Orlando owned by Mr. John Peel; 1890 Won by Home Guard owned by Mr. Buxey; 1891 Won by Zephyr Owned and ridden by Mr. D. E. Sassoon; 1892 Finally Won by Hero Owned and Ridden by Mr. D. E. Sassoon
