Lot Essay

Upon the death of his brother in 1801, Richard Barrington became the 4th Viscount Barrington. He died without issue in 1813 and was succeeded by his brother, the Reverend George Barrington, Prebendary of Durham and Rector of Sedgefield.

In writing about this painting, Sparrow states that one of the horses may be Tiger which belonged to Augustus Frederick, Prince of Wales.
