Lot Essay

The eldest of the prolific children renowned American artist Charles Willson Peale, Raphaelle Peale worked as a still life, trompe l'oeil, portrait artist and miniaturist. In addition to this, he assisted his father in the running of the Peale Museum in Philadelphia, and between 1797 and 1800 ran, with his brother Rembrandt, The Peale Museum in Baltimore.
