Valle's working dates above reflect the period of time he worked in America. Arriving in Philadelphia in 1794, he was in Charleston, South Carolina between 1803 and 1806. Vall was working in New Orleans, where one French-named subject of this portrait probably lived, between 1810 and 1815.
