AN ITALIAN WHITE MARBLE AND ALABASTER CENTRE TABLE

The circular top inlaid with foliate scrolls and geometric motifs, above a baluster shaft and on a tripartite concave-sided base with claw feet
32 in. (82.5 cm.) high; 34 in. (86.5 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

A related centre table by Ardo Colenghi of circa 1820 is in the collection of the Grand Duke Stephan Michailowitsch and is illustrated in H.-D. Grospietsch, Vom Zauber Einlegearbeiten, Freiburg im Breisgau, 1982, p. 18. A closely related table, but with outscrolling leaves on the column, was sold from the collection of the Frsten Thurn und Taxis, Regensburg, Sotheby's house sale 12-15 October 1993, lot 780.
