This Canterbury derives from a design by John C. Loudon published in 1833 in his Encyclopaedia of Cottage, Farm and Villa Architecture and Furniture, 1833. A similar canterbury based on the same design was sold anonymously, Sotheby's London, 27 September 1996, lot 176 and another almost identical one was sold anonymously, in these Rooms, 25 September 1997, lot 235.
