First half 19th Century, Probably South India or Ceylon
The pierced foliate basin with later brass liner, above a spiral stem wrapped with a fruiting vine, on five C-scroll beaded and foliate-wrapped legs, restorations to one leg
34 in. (88 cm.) high; 13 in. (34 cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

This jardiniere, probably from South India or Ceylon, has similar pierced foliate carving as an ebony burgomaster chair, illustrated in J. Veenendaal, Furniture, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and India, Delft, 1985, p. 111, fig. 132.
