Lot Essay

Busiri Vici considers the present picture 'certamente il pi bello e quello di migliore qualit' of Orizzonte's compositions of this type. In part this assessment is due to the staffage by Placido Costanzi which are particularly fine in quality. Furthermore Busiri Vici points out (loc. cit.) that because this picture is dated 1735, it becomes an important reference point for the chronology of Orizzonte's oeuvre, on the basis of which he dates several similiar compositions.
