Hollowed out of a single block of ivory, of rectangular form with rounded hinged cover on four very low feet, the cover with a central band of meandering flowering iris and carnations within a border band of meandering flowering vine, the sides of the box depicting fleeting animals flanked by occasional stylised flowers, in a flowering meandering border, the silver hinges with engraved birds and floral sprays, the interior divided into compartments for pens and ink, originally with an extra tray, surface rubbed, slight damages
