The later rectangular plate within a berried foliate surround the sides with pierced trailing floral and vine twist carving centering putti holding aloft a floral wreath, with a scrolled and foliate-carved pendant base, probably originally a picture frame

Lot Essay

A related richly fretted mirror, displaying the Gough family coat-of-arms amongst golden foliage inhabited by silvered garland-bearing cherubs, is in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (see G.Wills, English Looking-Glasses, New York, 1965, p.65, pl.11).
