A fine Italian silver-gilt Kiddush cup on high stem
Unidentified maker's mark: V.G surmounted by a profile of a man (Donaver-Dabbene nr. 3018; Rosenberg, Vol. IV, nr. 7477) Turin, late 18th Century.
The circular domed base embossed, chased and engraved with foliate, cartouche, floral and C-scroll decoration, the ensuite decorated baluster stem with three compressed knobs additionally decorated and waisted with beaded, corded and fluted bands, the lower part of the plain tulip-shaped goblet fully covered with a rich application chased and moulded with three crowned Italian Jewish symbols: 1) The Tablets of the Law 2) Censer with suspending chains 3) The High Priest's mitre, alternate with grape and ears of wheat decoration, surmounted by a band of cartouches and an openworked rim of alternate C-scrolls and rocaille motifs.
