CAST FROM THE MODEL BY EUGENE DELAPLANCHE, CIRCA 1890

Eugne Delaplanche (d. 1891) studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, before exhibiting for the first time at the Paris Salon in 1861 and carrying out work for the Htel de la Pava. In 1864 he won the grand prix which allowed him to study in Rome, from where he was to send back to Paris the marble figures, principally of female subjects, which were to establish his reputation. The plaster model for the present work, La Danse was exhibited at the Salon of 1886 (no. 3768), followed by the life-size marble version the following year (no. 4000) and again at the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1889.
