A Paris (Rue de Crussol) composite extensive dinner-service
Circa 1792-95, some pieces with red stencilled EB marks, painted EB marks and with painter's numeral 16, various incised marks, the cream-pots with B/potter/40 in underglaze blue
Each piece gilt with scattered foliage within borders of puce ribbon and entwined green and gilt foliage bands, gilt line rims, comprising:

Two bucket-shaped two-handled ice-pails and waisted covers with gilt cone finials
An oval two-handled soup-tureen and high domed cover with reeded gilt angular handles and oval finial with gilt foliage terminals
Two flared circular vegetable-dishes and covers with gilt anthemion and scroll handles and button-flower finials
Three double-lipped two-handled sauceboats with entwined gilt foliage handles
Three shallow lozenge-shaped stands
Twelve oval serving dishes, in sizes
Seven large circular dishes, in three sizes (one with rim chip, another riveted and one extensively damaged and repaired)
Five lobed circular deep dishes, in three sizes
Two square dishes
A large flared cicular footed bowl (foot chipped, cracked)
A circular footed bowl, smaller
Six flared circular tazzas
Two barrel-shaped moutardiers and one cover, on fixed oval stands
Six bucket-shaped cream-pots with angular handles and eight covers
Two odd circular covers
Two cylindrical coffee-cans
Ninety-seven plates (nine chipped, six cracked, one restored)

Lot Essay

The factory in rue de Crussol was founded by Christopher Potter. He transferred or leased the business to Etienne Blancheron in 1792. The present lot must date from the beginning of Blancheron's period.
