A George III mahogany quarter chiming bracket clock
W. Bull, Stratford; fourth quarter 18th century
The breakarch top with four brass ball finials on pedestals to the angles and surmounted by a concave crest moulding with later pierced brass frets and ball finial surmount, brass handles and trellis-pierced silk-backed sound frets to the sides, the base with typical brass bracket feet, the silvered dial signed W. Bull Stratford Essex with Roman and Arabic engraved chapter ring and pierced brass hands, foliate spandrels, subsidiary rings in the arch for strike/silent and calendar, the five pillar triple gut fusee movement with verge escapement and chiming on eight bells via eight hammers with hour strike on a further bell, the unusual backplate engraved with scrolling foliage and signed W. Bull Stratford Essex within a foliate cartouche at the base and engraved in the centre with Prince of Wales feathers within a large serpentine engraved roundal
