A Dutch walnut longcase clock
Symon Van Leeuwen, Amsterdam; circa 1750
The feather-banded case with large ogee mouldings supported on bun feet beneath the plinth, breakarch trunk door with oval lenticle, later hinges, the hood with gilt metal capped reeded pillasters supporting the breakarch caddy top with later sound frets, the dial signed Symon Van Leeuwen Amsterdam on the silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with black painted pierced steel hands, the finely matted centre with ringed winding holes, subsidiary seconds ring, decorated calendar aperture with day, deity and date, silvered alarm disc to the centre, foliate spandrels within an acanthus engraved border and rolling moonphase in the arch, latches to the dial feet and to the five ringed pillars of the movement with anchor escapement, alarm and Dutch strike on two bells; later seatboard
