A related sideboard-table, with scrolled pediment and plinth-capped pedestals, has been recorded with the date 1822 and signature of Adam Stephenson of Newcastle-on-Tyne (see 'An Anthology of Regional Furniture with Maker's Identification', Regional Furniture, 1993, fig. 80). A sideboard pattern of this nature is also illustrated, together with a lion-footed cisten, in George Smith's The Cabinet-Maker and Upholsterer's Guide, 1826.
