Enamelled, silvered and gilt at the centre with a colourful coat-of-arms, the well with a chain-pattern band below a floral garland around the foliate rim, minor rim frits

Lot Essay

The arms are those of Galvez, of Castille, Aragon and Andalusia. See D. S. Howard and J. Ayers, op.cit., 1978, no.386, p.390 for a jardinire in the Mottahedeh Collection. Another jardinire, together with a circular tureen and cover from this service are in the Helena Woolworth McCann Collection at the Metropolitan Museum, New York, illustrated by J. G. Phillips, China-Trade Porcelain, pls. 29 and 30. See also M. Beurdeley, op.cit., 1962, colour pl.XVII, p.85 for a goose tureen bearing these arms.
