A MAKUZU KOZAN INCENSE-BURNER IN THE STYLE OF NONOMIYA NINSEI
Impressed on the base Makuzu Kozan, Taisho Period (1912-1926)
Decorated in various coloured enamels and gilt, and modelled in the form of a phoenix perched on a pierced ball, its tail-feathers spreading throughout the surface of the ball decorated with scrolling clouds, the base with a band of paulownias, with wood box inscribed Ninsei no i gokusaishiki ho-o kumo sukashi nanajugo-o Kozan isaku Makuzu Kozan [colourfully decorated in the style of Ninsei with an openwork phoenix and clouds, made by Makuzu Kozan at the age of seventy-five]

Lot Essay
