A RARE HOSHI KABUTO
Edo Period (18th Century)
The sixty-two plate russet iron bowl of conical form with the standing rivets [hoshi] randomly spaced in groups of one, two and three, a tosei mabisashi [peak] is held by five za boshi [rivets with shaped washers], the lower half of the front of the helmet gilded, tehen kanamono of three stages, five lame itamono jikoro [solid plate neckguard] black lacquered and unusually laced in groups of dark blue, red and mixed and colour lacing, fukigayeshi leather covered with gilded fukurin and mon [badge]
