A SWISS ENAMELLED GOLD SNUFF-BOX
Geneva, circa 1780, with prestige marks
Oval box, the horizontally reeded guilloch panels on cover, sides and base sprinkled with pellets and coated with translucent light blue enamel and bordered with opaque white enamel bands, the lid centred with an oval enamel plaque painted with Alexander the Great and his physician Philip, within a border of white enamel beads alternating with translucent green enamel leaves and translucent red enamelled berries on a matted gold band, the matted gold borders and side pilasters applied with raised opalescent enamel ovolos alternating with bands of white enamel beads twisted with garlands of translucent green and red enamelled leaves and berries
