Lot Essay

Fragonard and the Abb de Saint Non travelled to France in 1761 and stopped in Genova from August 20 to September 10. A counterproof of the present drawing is in the British Museum, P. Rosenberg and B. Brejon de Lavergne, Saint-Non Frangonard Panopticon italiano, Rome, 1986, p. 245, 247, no. 350. Another version was formerly in the Suzor Collection, Paris.
