Oblong of oval section, overall with reeded chevrons, the hinged cover applied at one corner with the crowned cypher of Grand Duke Mikhail Mikhailovich in red, white and blue enamel, with cabochon red stone thumbpiece, hinged vesta compartment and tinder-cord fitting converted to a pencil, marked inside the base and cover, in original fitted wood case, the cover stamped in Cyrillic "M. P. Ovchinnikov" with the Imperial warrant
