the buff-brown label with perforated division, each side reading White Star Line R.M.S. "TITANIC." 2900 with printers name for McCorquodale & Co. Limited around collar, the passenger's half reading The property will be deposited in the Purser's safe. The Company will not be liable to passengers forthe loss of money, jewels, or ornaments by theft or otherwise, not so deposited. -- 3 x 5in. (7.5 x 14.5cm.)

Lot Essay

The Purser's half of the ticket would be tied to the object in question, the passenger half acting as a receipt to be surrendered on collection. Passengers did not have access to these complete labels and this example may possibly be unique in this respect. Titanic possessed three Purser's officers (one for each Class) although it is not known how this example survived
