Lot Essay

The idea behind the Prepaid Certificate was to allow wealthy Americans the facility of sending for friends and relatives without their need to produce funds. The certificate was exchangeable for a (usually) Third Class passanger ticket with White Star Line. They were only available for a brief period in America during the first half of 1912. This example appears to have been used to secure passage from Queenstown to New York aboard R.M.S. Olympic on the 8th March, 1912.
