The Coronation tour resulted in an English series victory by the tight margin of one to nil. The Australian tour party was captained by Lindsay Hassett. The Test series started with a run of 4 draws and only at the Oval was the deadlock broke. England, lead by its first professional captain this century, Sir Len Hutton, won the match by eight wickets. The victory meant that the ashes had been regained after a record period in Australians hands, eighteen years and 362 days. (2)
