A Chinese export lacquer oblong octagonal sewing box
painted and gilt with a panel depicting ladies at leisure among pine and rockwork wihin bands of scrolling foliage and a border with shaped cartouches of similar scenes, the sides with further ladies at various activities, fitted with a drawer, the sectional interior conataining boxes and various implements, inset to the cover with a mirror, bronze handles -- 15.in (38.7cm) wide, early 19th Century, (monogram rubbed, old wear).
