An 18th-Century Augsburg-pattern brass equinoctial compass sundial,
signed on the underside of the compass box Johan Schrettegger in Augsburg, the folding hour ring graduated 3-12-9, with spring-loaded pin gnomon, with folding latitude arc, the engraved horizontal plate inset with compass, with silvered dial, blued-iron needle with brass cap -- 2in. (6.3cm.) wide, with an original sheet of instructions in German and French, incorporating on one side an extensive list of European and other cities and towns, with appropriate latitude, contained in the original leather-covered paper card box with single brass hook and eye
