Persian manuscript on gold-sprinkled ivory paper, 173ff. with 12ll. of black nasta'liq arranged in two columns divided by a gold margin with black floral meander, titles in white on gold panels with polychrome floral meander, opening finely illuminated bifolio and with THREE DOUBLE PAGES OF MINIATURES, staining, flaking small damages and restorations, owners' seals, the binding with one original board reversed with Safavid tooled morocco binding with blue decoupé medallion on gold ground of cloud bands and fine lacquer doublures with animal combat groups forming original outer cover, lacquer chipped, other board replaced

Lot Essay

This work is the story of the love of Khizar Khan the son of Sultan 'Al al-Din (1296-1316) for Duval Rani the daughter of Rai Kazan Gugrat. This copy was entered into the library of Bahman Mirza son and successor of 'Abbas Mirza and the youngest brother of Muhammad Shah Qajar in Shaban 1250. The seal of Bahman Mirza is affixed at the beginning and end of the book.
