The hemispherical bowl on short foot, painted to the exterior in enamel colours with panels of flowers and birds interspersed with fans and daggers among swags, below a rim with floral border, one inscription cartouche on the side of the bowl in black nasta'liq with dedication to Malik al-Tujjar, Mu'tamed al-Mulk Yahya Khan, central floral and bird roundel inside bowl, narrow similar border around mouth
8¼in. (21cm.) diam.

Lot Essay

The inscription cartouche records that the bowl was made at the instance of Malik al-Tujjar Mu'tamad al-Mulk Yahya Khan. In AH 1268/1851-2 AD he was appointed as interpreter for the French language of Nasir al-Din Shah and was given the title Mu'tamad al-Mulk (most trusted of the empire), having been educated in France.
