The classic pattern brass three bar cavalry sabre with curved fullered blade. Brass wire wrapped original leather bound wood grip. Iron scabbard with two brass mounts carrying iron rings. Brass throat with the hand-marked Roman numerals XLIII, guard not marked with these numerals as might be expected, however it is marked with the number 4 (found at the leather buffer - now lacking). Untouched throughout.
35 inch blade
The firm Froelich & Eastvan (Estvan), obtained a contract for edged weapons for the State of North Carolina in 1861. After the desertion of Eastvan in 1862 the partnership was disolved and Froelich carried on the business. The Confederate States Armory was destroyed by Federal raiders in 1864.
