AN AMERICAN MILITIA STAFF OFFICERS' SWORD

Of the period 1840-1860. Gilt brass helmet pommel with carved bone grip and straight cross quillons with bud finials (lacks chain guard). Straight taper blade (with some original polish, light cleaning and minor staining) etched with two panels of featuring oak leaves and acorns, panoply-of-arms and the American Eagle motifs. Gilt brass scabbard, marked AMES MFG. CO. CHICOPEE/Mass. at throat and set with three mounts, the central with American Eagle and the semi-drag with oak leaf/acorn branch.
