MUHAMMAD ALI SIGNED BOXER'S LICENSE APPLICATION
Ali's July 11, 1967 formal application for a license to allow him to fight in the state of California. This request was turned down because of Ali's refusal to be inducted into the military earlier that year. Several other State Athletic Commissions had already declined to let Ali continue to earn his living as a fighter. Ali lists his occupation on the one-page legal-sized document as Minister & Boxer; under "Convictions" Ali writes yes, Failing to accept Mil. Service Case pending Appeal. The application is signed at the bottom in ink Muhammad Ali A.K.A. Cassius M. Clay Jr. and has two punch holes at the top. A black and white photograph of Ali is stapled to the form. A rare document from Ali's period of ring exile.
