A BRUSSELS BAROQUE HUNTING TAPESTRY
EARLY 17TH CENTURY, BY JAN RAES I, AFTER ANTONIO TEMPESTA

Centrally woven with a scene depicting a boar hunt, with hunters and their dogs preparing to slay the boar within a wooded landscape, the borders with mythological figures bearing blossoming fruit and flower baskets, the lower border inscribed 'ARS ET VIS DIVINA SVPERANT OMNIA,' the lower selvedge woven with 'IAN RAES,' the weaver's monogram and the Brussels townmark (areas of reweaving)-11ft. 4½in. x 12ft. 5in. (3m. 41cm. x 3m. 72cm.)
