REY, H.R. (1898-1977). Two original pastel drawings on paper. 1959-60. Each measures approximately 42 x 36 in., on sketch paper, some slight browning and wear at sheet edges, not affecting images, some wrinkling, a few marginal tape stains.
One drawing depicts Curious George seated atop the head of a large green dinosaur; the other is line drawing of two facing kangaroos (perhaps references to Rey's other popular character, Katy-No-Pockets). Written with his wife, Margret, Rey's popular series about the escapades of a monkey named 'Curious George,' were originally published in the 1940s-60s. These two drawings were obtained by the present owner sometime in 1959-60, at a lecture given by H.R. Rey at Mills College of Education. As most of his original artwork was given to the University of Oregon by his widow upon his death, Rey's original artwork is seldom encountered on the market. (2)
