2 (370 x 245mm). Half-title, title in red and black with engraved vignette. Large folding engraved bird's-eye-view/town plan of Lyons by N. Tardieu, 5 plates (1 double-page, 2 folding), 1 folding letterpress transcription of inscriptions, numerous illustrations, the mjority woodcut but including about 20 engraved illustrations (1 full-page). (Occasional browning, small neat repair to lower blank margin of Tt4.) 19th-century calf gilt by Arnaud, red and green morocco lettering-pieces on spine, gilt turn-ins, g.e. (small split to upper joint).

The work was planned for three volumes, but only the first, dealing with the history of the city up until 1400, ever appeared. The present copy includes the rare plate of the 'horloge de Saint-Jean' (opposite p.200) which is 'manque souvent' acoording to Brunet.
