With softly hammered finish, gilt lined, of inverted gourd form, on spreading lobed base with serpentine rim, continuing to form four curved supports, the shoulder front and back with poppy blossom, the corners with curvilinear scrolls and fronds with leafs and further poppies, continuing onto the base, with two high loop scroll handles, each with leaf at the shoulder, and leaf joins, with everted serpentine rim--15in. (39.3cm.) high, 102oz.

Lot Essay

The RRU Love Cup was one of a series of such cups made on special order for Gorham's Retail Division in the spring of 1920. According to the costing slip, the silver was prepared by drawing, which took almost 7 hours, 120 hours to make it, then it was chased for 145 ours. There is a charge on the slip of $7.07 for 51.d--, encountered only in this series, and is which is mystery. The final net factory price was set at $750.00
