Lot Essay

The coat of arms beneath the cresting is that of Hattingh impaling Hamel, for Ferdinandus Hamel (Utrecht 1659 - Utrecht 1740) and Mechteld Maria Hamel (Utrecht 1665 - 1740?) who married on 13 May 1690 in the Catherijnekerk in Utrecht.
The other coats of arms are of ancestors of Mechteld Maria: De Wijs van Schevickhoven, Meerwijck, Van Cleve, Blauvelt, Muijlwijck, Sael and Cool.

We are grateful to Mr. M. Spaans of the Centraal bureau voor Genealogie in The Hague for his help identifying the coats of arms.
