A MATCHED PAIR OF ITALIAN WALNUT HIGH-BACK ARMCHAIRS
19th Century
Each with rectangular shaped back and padded seat covered in Genoese red and gold silk damask, the arched toprail flanked by scrolled and berried foliate finials, gilt on one of the armchairs, the moulded and scrolled arms surmounted by a C-scroll and shell motif above square panelled tapering feet carved with foliate husks and centered by an X-shaped stretcher and on small toupie feet, one chair partly re-railed, with a label stencilled '40', the other armchair with stencilled black ink inscription 'G.BERARDI ROMA, VILLA DEL BABUINO 156.157'.
