The shaped and moulded red-veined white marble top above an entrelac frieze and a flower-filled parquetry-panelled door enclosing an interior with two shelves flanked by floral pilasters and canted angles with simulated flutes and headed by paterae and on block feet, The top of the carcase stamped 'P. PIONIEZ' and 'JME.', the top stencilled in pen 'N.2', the marble top repaired and possibly associated, partly remounted, the back feet replaced

Lot Essay

Pierre Pioniez, matre in 1765.

First established first in the Faubourg Saint-Antoine, Pierre Pioniez moved to rue Michel-le-Comte in the Marais after he became a matre bbiste. Specialised in the manufacture of late Louis XV furniture with either parquetry or pictorial marquetry, his marquetry is often reminiscent that on pieces made by his brother-in-law, Roger Vandercruse (R.V.L.C. called 'Lacroix').
