George F.A. MULOCK. The Charts of the "Discovery" Antarctic Expedition. London: The Royal Geographical Society and Edward Stanford, 1908. 8 (24.7 x 15.7cm.) 8pp. explanatory pamphlet. 5 folding coloured lithographic maps after George Mulock, the maps loose, as issued in original blue cloth slip-case, titled in gilt on spine and upper cover (light scuffing, cloth ties lacking), text in original cloth wrappers mounted on front pastedown.

Provenance: Robert Falcon Scott (1868-1912); by descent.

Scott's copy of the charts which represent the geographical achievements of his first expedition. The charts were compiled by Mulock, a Royal Navy sub-Lieutenant from the Morning, who replaced Shackleton when he was invalided home. Mulock 'was then only twenty-one years of age, but having received some excellent instruction as a surveyor in H.M.S. Triton, and having a natural bent for this work, his services proved invaluable'. (R.F. Scott, The Voyage of the 'Discovery', London, 1907, I, p.53)
