The wooden box of rectangular form with hinged lid on four brass ball feet, brass leading edges and mounts, the surface covered with a light brown gold glitter lustre left plain except for a small cusped floral bouquet medallion and pendants, opening to reveal fitted compartments and a padded velvet lid interior, the compartments containing two sets of pans and balance arms together with the appropriate tools for the jeweller to weigh items, one compartment with engraved brass cover for smaller weights, generally good condition

Lot Essay

The set is unusually complete. The steel instruments contained are also partly blued and partly decorated with etched floral designs which is again unusual. The set contains:
Large decorated steel balance arm with two brass pans
Small decorated balance arm with two smaller brass pans
Complete set of thirteen graduated brass weights
Tweezers with etched floral designs
Smaller blued steel tweezers with lozenge designs
Part blued steel combination divider and sprung clip with trefoil designs
Part blued steel sprung clip with elegant pointed terminal
Steel file with elegant blued faceted terminal
Steel rule with floral design
Steel arm in two sections with marked intervals and etched trefoil designs.
