Cylindrical, set on a raised ring foot and with curved lip, painted in Kakiemon-style polychrome enamels over clear glaze with stands of flowers above three narrow red lines, foot rim unglazed

European porcelain specialists have suggested that this cup may be Italian. On the other hand, a very similar example in the Ashmolean Museum was published as early Arita enamelled ware, circa 1660 (see Ashmolean Museum and Sotheby Parke Bernet, eds., Eastern Ceramics and other works of art from the collection of Gerald Reitlinger, exh. cat. [London: Philip Wilson Publishers, Ltd., 1981], fig. 151).
