Meiji Period (Late 19th Century), Gilt Mark Dai Nippon Satsuma Yaki Baika Ga, Blue Enamel Shimazu Crest
Painted in polychrome enamels and gilt over a clear crackled glaze with eight panels of flowers and mythical beasts bordered by chrysanthemum scroll, the flat shoulder with a phoenix in each corner and with a band of keyfrets encircling the rim, fitted with a metal cover cast in low relief with chrysanthemums and precious emblems and an openwork lotiform top surmounted with a lotus-bud knop; with inscription Bunka ni ...
