A Carved Bamboo Brushpot
Choson Period (19th Century)
Carved in six demilune lobes placed on a hexagonal wood base with matching curved edges, carved on each of the lobes in low relief to the smooth wood ground with auspicious symbols, including a carp leaping from waves below mountains and the sun, chrysanthemums, rock and two insects, a stag and doe, crane in pine, pair of cranes and bamboo, pair of ducks and lotus, and a pair of warblers on branches of flowering plum, the relief decoration stained golden brown and the backgrounds black, the interior dark brown
