FLOWN Apollo 11 heatshield plug. Encased in a lucite cylinder 2 in. diameter, 1 in. tall mounted on a circular wood base and engraved "Apollo 11, July 16-24, 1969" at the bottom. Command Modules had several heatshield openings that allowed electrical or other connections to be made to spacecraft equipment before launch or after landing. Threaded plugs of ablative material were place in these openings for protection during flight.
