TWO BACCARAT PAPERWEIGHTS
Mid-19th century
The first a close millefiori mushroom, the tuft composed of tightly packed brightly coloured millefiori canes, within a torsade of white latticinio hollow tubing entwined with cobalt-blue threads within mercury band, star-cut base, 3in. (7.6cm.) diam.; the second a dated scattered millefiori, the clear glass set with canes including silhouette canes of a horse, a peahen, two butterflies, a flower, a dog, a cockerel, a monkey, a stag, an elephant, a goat, signed on a single cane 'B 1848', 2in. (7cm.) diam.; together with a concentric millefiori pedestal weight, the clear glass set with six rows of assorted millefiori canes in shades of turquoise, yellow, pink, purple and white, about a central florette, on a cushion and pedestal of varicoloured spatter glass and goldstone fleck, edged with bands of hollow latticinio tubing, 36in.
