Virgen, de la instalacin 'Una jaula fue a buscar un pjaro'

"At the time that I was working on the installation 'Una jaula fue a buscar un pajaro' (A cage went in search of a bird) I had a dream in which I contemplated the image of a sacred mountain. I soon began to realise that this was an already inhabited territory, which gave me great happiness. In the installation an important point of reference were the drawings by the Spanish mystic John of the Cross. In those diagrams he represented the mystic mysteries of the ascent to Mount Carmel in such a way that the dream became the link between the ideas of John's sacred mountain and those of the syncretism present in the Peruvian Mother Mary by the indigenous colonial painters in Lima."

"The full understanding of the diagram by John of the Cross demands the creation of a mental image as an integral part in the process of receiving it. Therefore, from a logical point of view, the ideal response to the diagram of the Mount Carmel, illustrated on the left, is another diagram like the one on the right, executed by a disciple. Here, Laignelet is responding to again perceiving this diagram and producing his own version. This is like replying in the same language."
